La Cámara
A collection in progress, drawn from the stories of Angela Carter.
La Cámara takes its name and its nerve from Angela Carter's The Bloody Chamber — stories where the old tales are turned over and the women inside them take the story back. Each painting in the collection responds to Carter's world: its velvet menace, its castles and thresholds, its escapes.
The first work of La Cámara. Egress is about escape — its freedom and its foreboding. The canvas descends from a dense, weighted black into an open field of red: the darkness of the chamber giving way to something vast and uncertain beyond it. Like the ending of The Bloody Chamber itself, the escape is real, but the sky it opens onto is the colour of everything that had to happen first.

A burnt, wine-dark sky over a black land streaked with pale light — an atmospheric abstract landscape at the edge of nightfall.

Layered fields of storm blue and muted violet breaking into sudden red and green — an expressive study of colour under pressure.

A minimalist abstract composition: blocks of deep navy and cobalt held apart by a band of bare white — structure, weight and the space between.
